Week 3, the Integrated project seminar had taught me site analysis and the location analysis are very vital process before carrying out the development. For example, old maps, past uses, geological history and soil investigation are the example of factor need to be consider and study. Site analysis is an inventory completed at preparatory step to the site planning, which involves research, analysis and synthesis.

Actually, this kind of site and location analysis I had done it before during my study at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, however, there are some factors are different with my previous assignment in Malaysia is the culture, construction regulations and also conservation of wildlife. The most different is the British standard was imposes the rule and regulation on the protection of wildlife with countryside Act 1981. Thus, this lesson had taught me a new knowledge and better idea for involvement in the feasibility study on my future career.

Besides that, based on the site location. There is a river besides my proposed development location, so when I carry out the site location analysis, the river is one of the factors that I need to be considered as previously at year 2007 Sheffield city happened flood.

Eventually, I know how important was the site analysis, which is involves a lot of planning and cost estimating. If the feasibility study and the site inspection are carried out more specific and particular, this could help the client to save money. This lesson is good with opening discussion with everyone sharing their knowledge, is beneficial for me and I believed my friend also. I hope this kind of knowledge will assist me in my future career, especially the regulation and conservation of wildlife. I LOVE MY EARTH!

Proposed Development

18/6 Wednesday

From the tutor, we knew that the site is used as a research center for mining material before it change to become the store room for the Hallam University. Therefore, there is a lot of aspects I need to consider for my proposing development. If I chose to demolish the building, this may cause noise pollution to the surrounding and trouble for the adjacent building. But if we keep the building, but the interior partition design is just complexity. Besides that, there are some aspect that I need to consider and discuss like Environment Agency Map, the protected species, the plant may affect the foundation (Japanese Knotweed root), Sheffield city council, and the events of 2007 flood disaster.

Today, I just went to the site and surroundings again, and I found the site is actually a convenient location which just take 5 mins to the bus stop, an open public car park, 15 mins to the Train station, city center and also the Moor market. All is just nearby the site.

My very first step- Site Visit

Wednesday

Sunny day, early morning for the Matilda Street.
Conduct a site visit on today, is taken around 10mins from the Hallam University.
4pm we reached the building, and get a short briefing by Miss Marie.

The photo shown the building we visited, it contains of 3 storey height with a brick wall facade.
The interior design is complexity, every floor has a different design. And a wooden fire escape staircase behind the building. The internal surface of the building is kinda poor with cracking and the messy electric wiring and piping.

We are all just not clear what to do, and just did what is in the initial discussed plan to survey the building. We are recording the building dimensions, evaluate the condition of the building based on our own standard of evaluation.

So this site visit had given us a rough idea on how was the building design, and also the services provided.
A very good first step for out integrated assignment.
